Darwin Online -- Summer Reading 2015

This summer Darwinites (and anyone else who wants to) will be reading and discussing the following books and films each week via Google hangout:

Week 1: The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (Sat., June 27)

Week 2: Coraline, by Neil Gaiman + film (Fri., July 3)
Week 3: The Hobbit (Fri., July 10 -- LIVE discussion + movie screening and backyard campout). Guest discussant: C. Colbath
Week 4: To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee + film  (Sat., July 18)
Week 5: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain (Sat., July 25)
Week 6: Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry (Sat., Aug. 1) 
Week 7: Diary of Anne Frank  (Sat., Aug. 8)
Week 8: The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster + film (Aug. 15) 
Week 9: The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper (Aug. 22)\
Week 10: The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas + 1993 or 1974 film version (Aug. 29)


Discussions will take place online on Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. EST, except for weeks 2 and 3 (see above). Participants (parents and children) are encouraged to post their thoughts about the readings and films to this blog in the interim. 

Most of these books are available online for free at Project Gutenberg (https://www.gutenberg.org/), and as free audiobooks at Librivox (https://librivox.org/), or at your local library.
